Guest Blogger: Bri from Work Clothes, I Suppose

Today I have Bri from Work Clothes, I Suppose guesting blogging for me.

Hi Pink & Pretty readers! I’m Bri Marie and I blog over at Work Clothes, I Suppose. I’m super excited to be guest posting for Megan while she is out of town. For those of you who don’t read my blog, I work in a technology startup in Seattle and spend a lot of time traveling for work. I started my blog to force myself to try a little bit harder when I am in the office, and not just wear slacks and a tank/cardigan combo every day. And it has worked—before this blog, I never would have purchased red pants. I would never have worn my hair in a giant sockless bun on top of my head. And I definitely never would have worn stripes with a floral pattern.

Slacks: LOFT
Scarf: Forever 21

Flats: Banana Republic (similar)

Watch: Vince Camuto

For those of you still unsure about pattern mixing, here are a couple of tips to keep in mind:
-       Ensure a similar color palette. While the floral scarf I’m wearing doesn’t actually have any blue in it, all of the colors complement each other without causing a lot of extra noise. I eased my way in with black and camel, and have worked up to brighter colors.
-       Break it up with a solid. In this case, I’m wearing solid pants to give a basic look to the bottom half of my outfit. Pattern-mixing without a solid as one of the pieces is definitely more of a challenge. Even here, I wore solid tights and boots to create a solid foundation.
-       Mix up the pattern sizes. Don’t go with two overly bold prints, or two tiny prints – try to contrast them with each other. I find that a small floral or animal print often goes well with a larger striped pattern. In this outfit, the animal print is busier and bolder, and the stripes have more white space to contrast.

Great look Bri!

Thanks again :)

Guest Blogger: Katie from Style Diary

I'd like you to meet Katie from Style Diary.

She's taking over for me today - take it away, Katie.....

Hi Ladies! I'm Katie from Style Diary, here today to fill in for the adorable Megan! I started my blog as a way to document my personal style, and share some of the affordable outfits I put together from my closet. Since we are nearing the end of summer, I have made it my mission to wear as many neon and brightly colored outfits as possible. I love this neon striped tee that I picked up during a J.Crew Sale, and the fact that it matches perfectly with my pink J.Crew Mari sandals. Continuing with the neon theme, I added some neon yellow jewelry as an accent color. My cargo vest on top keeps this outfit from being too bright, and adds a little more interest than your typical tee and jeans look.

Top- J.Crew (similar here, here), Vest- Old Navy (similar), Jeans- Jessica Simpson, Heels- J.Crew (love these), Necklace- similar, Bracelet- J. Crew Factory

Hope you enjoyed a little peek into my personal style!
Hop on by my blog, Style Diary, for more outfit ideas!

Thanks so much for having me, Megan!

See how I styled them herehere and here.

Great minds think alike!

In case you didn't already know, heels are not the best dog walking shoes. Especially when you're walking a 70lb lab and a 65lb bulldog. That's a lesson I learned the hard way. My dogs are pullers and they're stronger than me. Mix in heels and well,  let's just say I now have a bruised knee. Why did I ever think it was a good idea?!  I plead temporary insanity and laziness. Next time, Kacie, just change your darn shoes.

I want to give a big THANK YOU to Megan for letting me take over her blog for the day! .
I'd love for you to stop my my blog and check out my store :)

Happy Birthday Pops!

On a different note, today, I'd like you to meet Jenn.
She blogs over at the adorable The Brandied Pair.

Take it away, Jenn....

I am Jenn the face and voice behind The Brandied Pair. Founded in May of 2013, The Brandied Pair combines my love for style, fashion and a little of everything else with my husband’s--Jordan Romero from Abre Los Ojos--love for photography. With no formal training in either field, The Brandied Pair serves as an outlet for us to express our individual interests for these arts as well as our love for each other. I am so excited to be guest posting for Megan today, she is such a lovely little fashionista. I hope she is having a lovely vacation but can't wait for her return because she is one of my daily reads!

A crisp white oxford shirt literally drips with classic American style. Personally, this article of clothing evokes feelings of relaxed sophistication and laidback class. I feel like a Kennedy when wearing one! In all seriousness, a button down oxford shirt is the perfect middle ground article of clothing when faced with the “casual or dressy” dilemma. An oxford’s versatility allows it to serve as a piece that can refine your casual attire and also make your dressy attire a little less portentous.

Happy Wednesday!

oXo

Thanks, Jenn, for the great post!

I am a mother to a toddler boy who keeps me extremely busy. I am a Labour & Delivery Room Nurse, make cakes and cupcakes (Agi's Creations) and blog on the side. Tres Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up
1. Why did you decide to start blogging?
I started my blog as an outlet for me, a way of expressing myself. It was also a way to find myself again after having my son. I battled with a bit of postpartum depression, you can read about it here, and this was a way for me to start doing things for myself.
2. What are a few of your daily reads?
I have many daily reads. I have 4 separate folders for my daily blog reads. To name just a few and Megan's is one of them:
I'll end it with these few, but I read far more than these.

3. What trends are you loving right now and what trends are you steering clear of?
I am loving stripes, bright colours, big purses, statement necklaces, arm candy, maxi dresses/skirts, boyfriend jeans and cobalt anything. I'm not the biggest fan of high-low anything. I like classic styles.

4. What's the best things that has come out of blogging for you?
Meeting fabulous fellow bloggers. Being able to reach readers who are across the globe. I love when people send me comments and/or tell me that they read my blog and it inspired them to get out of their Lululemon pants and put some effort into their daily outfits. I love how my little blog has inspired other women.

5. What a piece of advise you have for your
fellow blogger or those thinking about starting a blog?
Blogging is a lot of hard work. It takes many hours a day to put a post together. I spend more time networking than anything else. Your blog should be a reflection of you, not of anyone else. You should blog about what you're passionate about, not what you believe the readers want. Don't get discouraged about numbers. It shouldn't be about numbers but it is. Keep at it and your hard work will pay off. Make blogging friends. It helps a lot. Host giveaways and leave comments on other people's blogs. Thank you so much Megan for having me guest post. Stop by Vodka Infused Lemonade and say hi.

Thanks, Agi, for the great post!
